They are also known as high-temperature tape or insulating tape. That’s because as a low-outgassing material, the polyimide or Kapton, tape thermal conductivity is compatible with a temperature range as low as -269°C (-452°F) and as high as 260°C (500°F).

What is Polyimide Tape Used For?

Polyimide tape’s unique ability to maintain its physical, mechanical and electrical properties and its wide temperature range makes it appealing to a wide range of industries applications. It is used for technology, electronic, aeronautical industries such as in electronic components for space exploration as well as Apple® products.

Polyimide tape is also used in the auto industry for wrapping switches, diaphragms, sensors, and coils in seat heaters. The aerospace industry uses Polyimide tape primarily for the insulation of aircraft and spacecraft wings. Other uses for polyimide tape are for masking parts for powder coating, masking edges of overlap seams, e-coating, electroplating, anodizing and as a barrier of separation for dissimilar metals. Polyimide’s properties also make it ideal for electric insulation in X-Ray devices and radioactive environments.

Finally, Polyimide tape can be laminated, metalized and punch formed; and these capabilities make it a candidate for converting to custom shapes and sizes.

It resists shrinking, curling and edge lifting and removes with zero adhesive residues. The thin, flexible backing seals tight on contact, peels off clean and leaves sharp, clean paint edges.

After purchasing, store polyimide tape under normal conditions of 60° to 80°F (16° to 27°C) and 40 to 60% humidity in the original packaging material. For an optimum experience, use this tape within 24 months from the date of manufacture.
