Scrapbooking Tape

Scrapbooking tape is reverse wound unsupported acrylic transfer used in an ATG Dispenser/gun. The Dispenser unwinds the liner leaving a strip of acid-free adhesive exposed. #56720(A) is the industry standard for scrapbooking and great for general Purpose bonding for printers and framers. #56722 is excellent for jobs where a little more adhesive is required, laminated films, invitations, and metal foils. #56750 is a heavy duty ATG Tape with a quick tack and holding for the more difficult bonding applications.

ATG tape has good adhesion to paper, most plastic films, metals, and Foils. If you have questions about ATG Tape please see our ATG FAQ.

Scrapbooking Tape from Tape Jungle

In recent years the scrapbooking industry has evolved by leaps in bounds. A lot of this evolution is thanks to the advancements in the adhesive industry.

‌In the past, scrapbookers had limited resources available for adhering their memories to their scrapbooks. Today, however, they now have many high-quality scrapbooking tape options.

‌Learn more about different scrapbooking tapes and how to use them below.

‌Using Scrapbooking Tape

‌Your average craft store can supply you with decorative scrapbooking tapes that look pretty. However, when it comes to preserving your memories, you want something to hold them for a lifetime.

‌When you’re shopping for scrapbooking tape, make sure to avoid tapes that contain acid. Tapes with acid-based adhesives will cause your photos to deteriorate.

‌You should be able to tell from the tape’s label if it contains acid. However, if the label is missing, you can try using the smell test. If a tape’s adhesive contains acid, it will likely have a strong smell.

If you’re unable to determine if your tape contains acid, then don’t use it. Instead, purchase a different tape that you know doesn’t contain acid.

‌Different Styles of Scrapbooking Tape

There are many different styles of scrapbooking tapes available to help you bring your vision to fruition. You may even have some of these tapes in your home already.

‌Double-Side ATG Tape

Holding the many elements of your scrapbook in place requires a strong double-sided tape. Sure — you could use a wet adhesive like glue, but it's easy to end up with an unruly mess by accidentailly spilling or over-applying glue.

Adhesive Transfer Gun (ATG) Tape is a reverse-wound tape that provides a strong permanent hold. It uses a glass stabilized acrylic adhesive that is acid-free, so you won’t have to worry about it deteriorating your photos over time.

This type of tape comes in three strengths:

Standard ATG TapeProfessional ATG TapeHeavy Duty ATG Tape‌

For the purpose of scrapbooking, the standard ATG tape is all you need. However, if you want something more robust, the professional tape is a good option. Unless you plan to mount your scrapbook to the wall, you’re not going to need the heavy-duty ATG tape.

To use an ATG tape, you will need an ATG tape dispenser

Gaffer Tape

Another acid-free tape you can use on your scrapbooking project is Gaffer tape. This tape has a rubber adhesive and comes in a plethora of colors. Instead of using flimsy sticky notes to edge your design, consider using Gaffer tape.

The adhesive on sticky notes contains acid and will leave a residue. Gaffer tape, in contrast, is easy to remove and won’t leave a residue.

Gaffer tape can also be used for decorative purposes in your project. The matte finish on these tapes allows for an excellent printing surface.
